ISIS Claims To Have Shot Down Coalition Warplane Over Syria; Claims Capture Of Jordanian Pilot
The Jerusalem Post is reporting this morning that ISIS militants claim to have shot down a coalition aircraft over the northeastern Syrian province of Raqqa Wednesday, and captured the Jordanian pilot. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory For Human Rights monitoring group claims it had confirmed reports that ISIS militants downed the plane near the ISIS stronghold in Raqqa. Islamic State social media accounts published pictures purportedly of the warplane’s pilot being held by the group’s fighter — but, the human rights group said it was difficult to verify the claim because of the restricted media access to the warzone.
The claim is unverified; but, there is no doubt that a high priority of the militant group would be to shoot down and capture a U.S. pilot, or any U.S. military member it could get its hands on. Let’s hope this turns out to be a bogus report. CENTCOM is reportedly looking into these allegations. RCP
