CENTCOM Twitter Account ‘Hacked By Islamic State’: Group Likely Attempting To Capitalize On Last Weeks Terrorist Attack In Paris, France — And, The Subsequent Worldwide Coverage The Event Garnered
USCENTCOM has confirmed that the their Twitter and YouTube Channel/webpages/a accounts have been hacked — and the Islamic State has claimed responsibility. USCENTCOM’s webpage now shows an Islamic State fighter, and phrases like ‘Cyber Caliphate,’ and ‘I Love You ISIS,’ on the Command’s webpage. One message says, “American soldiers, We Are Coming — Watch Your Back. ISIS” with the hashtag ‘#CyberCaliphate.”
The first hack occurred around 12:30pm EDT today. Names and phone numbers, and addresses of active and retired U.S. Army generals were also posted on the hacked page; though some of those numbers appear to be invalid/outdated.
Nonetheless, we clearly have a dangerous adversary, that isn’t the JV Team; and, they are clearly trying to capitalize on the notoriety the group achieved from last week’s terrorist attack in Paris, France against the Charlie Hedbo offices, and Jewish establishments. V/R, RCP
