Vowing To Respond, Iran Says Israel Crossed ‘Red Lines,’ In Syria Air Strike That Killed Iranian General Officer
Iran has told the United States that an Israeli airstrike that killed an Iranian Revolutionary Guards general officer in Syria last week, “had crossed Red Lines, and “that the Zionist regime should await the consequences of their action,” said Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.
“In this message to the Americans, we said that the Zionist regime had crossed our red lines,” Abdollahian said. Foreign Minister Abdullahain said “Iran delivered the message to U.S. officials via diplomatic channels. “Abdollahain’s warning, echoed those of Iran’s Basji Force Commander’s ceremony on Tuesday honoring General Mohammed Allahdadi,” according to an article in The Jerusalem Post. “The Zionists should know that they are approaching their destruction. They should be fully prepared because we will have not have peace anymore,” said Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naghdi.
The pressure on Iran and Hezbollah to retaliate in some meaningful way makes it hard to see how this does not escalate. It certainly raises the stakes, and heightens the chances for miscalculation and spiraling beyond what either Iran or Israel would prefer. V/R,RCP
